Demand for packaging line for screws

Recently, we received an inquiry from a business development manager at an international company. As part of the expansion of the production portfolio, he was looking for a line for packaging self-cutting screws, counting screws, packing them in a plastic bag, sealing them, and labeling them.

  • Screws dimension:
    • Variant A: 4,8x20mm
    • Variant B: 4,8x35mm
  • Packaging
    • Variant 1/ 20pcs in plastic bag, 140 x 140mm (w x h) with labeling (label dimension 50x70mm)
    • Variant 2/ 50 pcs in pastic bag, 140 x 100mm  (w x h) with labeling (label dimension 50x70mm)

We have handled similar cases, so we share relevant machine videos with the customer and check their packing speed and accuracy requirements to provide a suitable solution.

For the label, do you need information printed directly on the bag or a label stuck onto it? Different machines are required for each method. Please refer to the website link below for more information.

The customer appreciates that we find a proposed solution appealing and are seeking a similar setup. They require a speed of 12-15 bags per minute, with an emphasis on accuracy, which should be verified by weighing at the end.

In our case, the screw length is 85mm, 100 pcs per bag, 6 hoppers counting together, and the speed is 7 ~8 bags per min. The customer screw length is 20~35mm, 20~50 pcs per bag, so 12 – 15 bags per minute are met.

For accuracy please see the below explanation.

We use Regional Optical Fiber from Japan Keyence whose official date counting tolerance is 1/1000 each hopper, and we add detect box, it will reject the wrong qty products into detect box so reject the wrong qty before packing when fiber detects the wrong qty itself,  Pls see the video.

If you can’t accept the 1/1000 counting tolerance for each hopper then you can add the end weigher checker to detect the wrong qty bags. Pls see the below video.

Worldepack has specialized in counting packing machines for 20 years, with rich experience in ensuring high accuracy. The main reasons for miscounting are fiber quality, Material moving inertia, and stable hopper vibrating.

Question: What is the difference between the detect box and the end weigher checker? Detect box detecting wrong quantity how? By weighing?

The detect box is an optional device installed between the hopper and the packing machine, when the machine detects the counting qty is wrong, the detect box will open another side to avoid the wrong qty following into the packing machine.  sometimes the counting speed is very fast and one more pc product may follow down before the Hopper cylinder is closed, If the fiber recognizes one more pc then the detect box will open another side and reject the material. pls check the video (at 1.15)

But no fiber counting accuracy is 100%. Our fiber counting accuracy is 1/1000, meaning the detection box is unable to recognize 1/1000. Therefore, an end weigher checker is needed to reject bags based on weight. The weighing checker will reject finished bags with incorrect quantities. Even though the end checker will reject incorrect bags, it wastes time and requires a worker to tear open the wrong bags, place the contents into different hoppers, and recount.

Please note that if your material has significant weight tolerance or if there are too many different kinds of materials mixed, for example, 50 small washers weighing 0.5g each but with a 0.011g weight tolerance (0.511g each), then there may be a range of 25-25.55g per bag even if the quantity is 50 pieces. When bags weighing 25.55g pass through the end weigher, the weight is over the target tolerance of 0.5g, so the weigher will reject this bag even if the quantity is correct at 50 pieces.

Pls see the end weigher video

The customer needs to put the labels on the packages – the dimensions of the labels should be 50x70mm.

ok, pls see the below video.

The printer should be connected to the system NAVISION – and read the data that will be printed (producer, EAN code, information about the type, color, etc…), better show us one picture of the label sample.

The content is generated by your software system and sent to the printer. Print and label machines are just the hardware that performs. The software can just distribute the label template content to the printer. The software can directly set the default printer to be ours.

If only 20~50 pcs per bag then a small packing machine is enough, if over 1 kg per bag then suggest a big packing machine like in our video. For more information feel free to contact us at calla@worldepack.com
